Assignment 1 – Types of Business
This task assesses
P1 Describe the type of business, purpose and ownership of two contrasting organisations.
You work for the City of Carlisle (CC) Chamber of Commerce and have been asked to investigate business activities.
You should choose two contrasting organisations, one in the private sector and one in the public sector, to investigate and complete the tasks below.
Public Limited Companies (PLCs) have to publish their accounts, making them available to the public. Private Limited Companies (LTDs) do not have to publish their accounts publicly, though some choose to. This is usually a good starting place to investigate private sector business activity.

a) Write a BRIEF introduction to each business to explain what it does.
Include information about the competition and the market share of the business where relevant.
Include information about the business's profit and sales figures are over the last 5 years/income and expenditure figures.
Include information about the size of the business in terms of the number of employees & sales
Include a description of what sector it operates in. (You should use graphs from the introductory activity to support your explanation)
You can show what is happening to the sector(s) that your businesses operate in.
b) Explain in detail the type of ownership that the two businesses have.
You should include an explanation of the advantages and disadvantages of the type of ownership and say why this type of ownership suits the business.
c) Explain the purpose of each business.
