A. Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults.

Effective communication is the most important part in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. Having good communication skills will help us develop good relationships especially with younger people, some students lack in confidence and may find it hard to communicate, so we need to come across to them in a positive and gentle manner, this way they will be more likely to open up to us, we would not like to be spoken to in a negative way so therefor we should be careful how we speak to others.
It is important to communicate effectively in order that information is understood, and to avoid confusion or delay, this could be messages passed between staff or between child, parents and teachers. It is vital to develop good appropriate relationships with children, staff, parents and any other adults involved in a child’s education.
Adults should act as positive role models to children that are in their care, communication can be both verbal and nonverbal, non-verbal communication can sometimes have a more powerful impact than verbal, this can include all kinds of emotional expressions, actions and body language.

B. Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults.

There are various factors that contribute to the development of positive relationships these are divided into several categories these being;
Effective communication is to communicate effectively in conversation so no one gets confused by another person’s meaning; this could be body language, emotional expressions or just verbal.
Showing respect this is important that you show respect and be courteous when building relationships, pupils from different cultures may have different beliefs from your own, you should acknowledge and respect views, you should treat everyone equally and fairly.
Being considerate, we must be considerate to others, as you may be working with a child who is under a lot of pressure, we need to understand why they are behaving in a certain way or why they’re not acting their normal self’s. We must consider the circumstances of others around us.
Remembering issues which are personal to them, this helps to build positive relationships by you enquiring, showing interest into other members of staff, or pupils it shows you care about them, for example a member of staff has been off work caring for her mum, I asked her how everything is going, and how mum and she was, I hope this made her feel that I’ve been thinking about her, and that I’m there if she wanted a chat.
Talking time to listen to others, you should make sure you take time to listen to others, this will help build your relationship, if they feel they can speak to you and that you would listen, and share in their concerns, it may not be problem solving just a general chat or help or even someone to confide in but by listening you are showing you care and are their friend.
Being clear on key points , This is important when having conversations with others that you are given information to, you should always be clear in what you say, and make sure they understand, as you can be easily distracted, especially talking to children, you should get them to repeat back to you what they need to do if their unsure, for example when working in reception class, and we are doing activity’s, some children get confused not knowing what their supposed to do in situations, I will explain again, and get them to then explain to me what they’re doing.
Maintaining a sense of humour, although education in school is important we still need to take time out and have a giggle, this makes children feel comfortable around each other, it’s also a good ice breaker, laughter is a great
