The expected stage of social development of children ages 4 will be affectionate towards family, friends and carers they want to help out more often to please carers. They also may start to share playthings with each other if a child brings in a toy from home he has to make sure that he/she shares that toy with others. Also most children start to feel confident and express themselves in terms of their achievements. Then finally start playing with other children that they don’t normally play with together.

I think the suitable method of observing and recording the social development of child aged 5 years is a tick list. I choose this because the observer uses a form to look for particular skills or development. They are ticked off by the observer as the things they want to see have been seen. This method is often used to asses a child’s stages of development. These observations may be done over a longer period of time and older children may be asked to carry out specific tasks with working with other children that they don’t normally work with.

Advantage of a tick list is that it is much easier for other staff to get the information and it is quick and easy to get it all done you don’t have to spend a lot of time writing up, and you don’t have to write very much
