Epithelial Tissue
• The sub types of Epithelial Tissue
• Simple squamous- can be found in the lining blood vessels, alveoli of lungs and glomerular capsules in the kidneys.

• Simple cuboidal- can be found in the kidney tubules and on the surface of the ovaries.

• Simple columnar- can be found in the small intestine, large intestine, lining of the uterus, the lining of the uterine tubes and the gallbladder.

• Pseudo

stratified Columnar- the ciliated version is found in the trachea. The non-ciliated version lines the epididymis which is part of the male urethra.

• Stratified

squamous- the keratinised version forms the epidermis of the skin. The non-keratinised version forms inner lining of the mouth, oesophagus and the vagina.

• Stratified

cuboidal- found in the ducts of glands, sweat glands, mammary glands and salivary glands.

• Stratified

columnar- found in the anus, conjunctiva in the eye, uterus and pharynx.

Where is it found?
• Epithelial

tissue is found on all of the bodies surfaces. It also lines most of the internal organs and it is the major tissues in glands.

Function
• Line

and protect vital cells in the body. An example of this in the upper layers of the skin. They are layered with squamous cells which are designed to keep the body protected from pathogens.

What types of cells are present?
• They

types of cells present in epithelial tissue are:

• Squamous

cells
• Flat

cells

• Columnar
• Cuboidal
• Goblet

Muscular Tissue
• The

sub-types of Muscular Tissue

• Skeletal

muscle- skeletal muscle attached to bones and causes movements in the body. • Cardiac

• Smooth

Muscle- walls of the heart.

muscle- walls of the intestines, bladder, uterus, stomach and blood vessels.

Where is it found?
• Muscular

tissue is located throughout your body.

Function tissue brings about movement and mechanical work in various parts of the body including those that are vital for the survival of the organism, for example, the heartbeat.

What types of cells are present?
• They

types of cells present in epithelial tissue are:

• Muscular

• Embryonic

germ cells.

Nervous Tissue
• Sub-types

of tissue in Nervous Tissue

• Neurons-

brain and spinal cord. They transmit information and support cells.

• Schwann

cells- these are one of two of the main support cells for nervous tissue outside the brain and spinal cord. They wrap around the neurons in myelin for insulation.

• Satellite

cells- these are the second main support cells for tissue outside of the spinal cord and brain. They are similar to astrocytes, they have several functions.

• Glial

cells- brain and spinal cord. They include the oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, microglia and ependymal cells. Oligodendrocytes provide the myelin that insulates neurons. Astrocytes have several functions, such as protecting the bloodbrain barrier. Microglia are part of the immune defence system. Ependymal cells make cerebrospinal fluid for a healthy brain.
