The FCAT
In the public schools of Florida it is assigned to its students annually a test called the FCAT. To switch to a higher grade students must pass this exam with a punctuation of more than three points. It is a fact that ten percent of students fail this test, and this implies that they cannot pass the grade or older students cannot get their high school diploma. This is how the FCAT affect Floridian students. There are many people asking what it is the FCAT. It’s Administration and usage; and if exist any options for students who fail this test. Here are all the answers to these questions.
First of all, what is the FCAT and its purpose? The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) is the foundation of the statewide educational assessment and accountability program. The FCAT program includes assessments in the following areas: Writing for students in grades 4, 8, and 10, reading and mathematics for students in grades 3 through 10, and Science for students in grades 5, 8, and 11. The FCAT began in 1988 as part of Florida’s overall plan to increase student achievement by implementing higher progress, which measure student standards. The purpose of the FCAT is to gather two kinds of information. To provide information about student mastery of skills, and to hold schools and districts accountable for progress.
Second of all, Administration and usage of the FCAT .The FCAT is administered annually, in late February, and early March to all public schools students. Unlike the others test the FCAT Writes exam is administered in February to allow enough time for scoring before the end of the school year. Student’s results from the FCAT are compiled to generate a grade for each public school. Under this plan, schools receive a grade from A to F, based on what percentages of students pass the exams. If a school improves or maintains an A the state will deposit reward money to the school, in the amount of $75.00 per student enrolled. Schools can use the money for staff bonuses, educational equipment, or materials related to boosting student performance, but most of the money typically goes toward teacher bonuses.
Third of all, Options after failing the FCAT. A student failing the tenth grade test, that is, the test required for graduation, is allowed

accountable for their performances. I am a parent of a child who is affected by NCLB and my feelings towards this law are extremely negative. The reason I feel this way is because my child is now 14 years old and continuously has difficulties passing the FCAT that is given every year that measures student’s progress toward meeting the Sunshine State Standards (SSS) benchmarks. This test retains students in the 3rd grade if they score a level 1 and they can also be retained twice in the 3rd grade. Therefore…

seems like it was so simple, but going back would be a very stressful process. I am very glad my high school years are over, for they felt like the longest years of my life. The most exhausting high school activities included; Homework, pop quizzes, FCATS, the list goes on and on. I did not think much about life after I graduated. I regret missing out on scholarships openings and university application deadlines. I remember when my friends would talk to me about how they got accepted into universities…
