The Journey to Success
Human beings are destined to achieve great things throughout life, or at least that is what society has come to expect from people. Success is something that does not come easy to most people, especially when faced with many different obstacles. In pre-school, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. At that very moment I did not know exactly what I wanted to be. Also, I did not have a clue of the difficulties that I would have to overcome along the way. I am writing to inspire those who have felt disconnected from their dreams, simply because of life’s letdowns. In my life, I had many difficulties in high school some of which discouraged me, nonetheless I started college and motivated myself to stay focused, and because of this motivation I see myself in the future accomplishing all the goals set forth.
High school seems like it was so simple, but going back would be a very stressful process. I am very glad my high school years are over, for they felt like the longest years of my life. The most exhausting high school activities included; Homework, pop quizzes, FCATS, the list goes on and on. I did not think much about life after I graduated. I regret missing out on scholarships openings and university application deadlines. I remember when my friends would talk to me about how they got accepted into universities all over the state; I never really thought much of it. However, looking back at it all I do not wish upon others ideas of success for I have created my own path and will check off the goals that I have made for myself. After taking a semester off, I realized there is no hurry in education. I assumed one needs time to step out to come to terms with what one wants to do with his or her own life. I made the choice to take that semester off and later realized what I really wanted to do; I knew that being in college will help build my confidence in the area of which I want to make a profession for myself, therefore, I took charge and decided it was time to get it together and start the beginning of the journey towards my dream.
Within my life there were many hardships that I have had to overcome in making the decision of attending college. To most people, it is just a simple introductory to a chapter in people’s lives. However, college was much more then an easy transition. For example, there were obstacles that I had to face and role models that gave me nothing but further discouragement towards my success. My parents that were meant to be supportive and caring of just that simple “B” would no more than give a pat on the back or even then would be more concerned of my marital status at the age of 16 rather than my well being. Also, I have Cuban-American parents of Cuban descent that are mainly worry about a woman’s well being in the household. My parent's stereotype of being very sexist holds to be true throughout my entire family. For example, while I was reading for my history test, my mother comes in the room and exclaims, “Maylin, why haven’t you done your brothers laundry?” as if doing my 25 year old brothers clothes that he should be doing wasn’t enough for me to keep on with my studies. I never understood why my family always praised my brother; he’s a 25 year old man that still lives with his mom, never looked into finding a decent career for himself, and on top of that doesn’t want to settle down with someone that may one day be his wife. I’m not saying that you should be married at a young age, but there comes a point in your life where you’re going to want to be settled down because no one wants to be with someone that has no ambition or goals in their life. After I was done with high school I was terrified of starting college, I was worried about not being able to get everything done on time, or not being able to understand the lectures we would have in class. I was embarrassed of not being at a top-notch school with all my

Success can take many different definitions, people have different interpretations of what success really means. For me it’s as simple as living well and laughing often. behaviorism studied the conditioning processes that produced behavior. Humanist thinkers felt that both psychoanalysis and behaviorism were too pessimistic, either focusing on the most tragic of emotions or failing to take into account the role of personal choice.
