Protein is one of the nutrients along with carbohydrate, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. Protein is an essential nutrient. There is no life without protein and they are part of every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies. These body proteins are constantly being broken down and replaced. The protein in the foods we eat is digested into amino acids that are later used to replace these proteins in our bodies.
Proteins are made up of amino acids which act as the building blocks. There are 20 different amino acids that join together to make all types of protein. Some of these amino acids can't be made by our bodies, so these are known as essential amino acids.
Failure to consume enough protein causes protein deficiency, a serious medical condition. People with protein deficiency experience fatigue and irritability as well as have symptoms such as loss of muscle mass, skin pigmentation, diarrhea, changes in the color or texture of hair, protruding belly, rashes and swelling.
Daily protein requirements differ by your age and sex. The Institute of Medicine recommends that young children receive 13 to 19 g of protein each day. Adult males should consume 56 g of protein daily, while adult females need 46 g per day.
While your body needs protein, excess protein can have adverse health effects also. Overconsumption can increase the risk of osteoporosis. Bone loss happens when calcium is taken from the bones to help carry out bodily functions. Calcium is needed to process proteins, and if there is not enough calcium present in the body, it is taken from the bones. Your kidneys are responsible for filtering a number of substances, including
Protein Article Research Every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies has a connection to protein. Body proteins are broken down and replaced constantly. The foods that we eat that contains protein is digested into amino acids that’s used later to replace the proteins in our bodies. Food that protein is found is: Meats, poultry, fish, legumes, tofu, eggs, nuts and seeds, milk and milk products, grains, some vegetables, and some fruits. There are 20 different amino acids that join together to make…
Treatments Researchers have identified a key protein that causes the advancement of Huntington's after following up on the discovery two years ago of the gene that causes this disorder. Shortly after the Huntington's gene was identified, researchers found the protein it produces, a larger than normal molecule they called huntingtin that was unlike any protein previously identified. The question that they did not know was what either the healthy huntingtin protein or its aberrant form does in a cell. Recently…
Protein Article Research SCI 241 Protein Article Research Protein is essential to our bodies. It is broken down within our body, and then replaced by the nourishment we ingest. There is a lot of misconception surrounding protein. I have learned several eye opening facts about protein through the research conducted during this course. It is important to understand types of protein, the roll of amino acids, and the risks of consuming too much or too little protein. To avoid under or overconsumption…
Science Current Event Chemistry Mrs. Menendez-Period: 4 November 14, 2013 Summary The article that I read about was on how bacteria proteins in the sky that can control precipitation patterns. The researcher named Bioengineer Tobias Weidner, leader of the surface protein group at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany. He worked on a bacterium called Pseudomonas syringae it basically attacks plants by growing ice crystals how cool…

created a possible breast cancer vaccine after many years of research that will decrease the risk of developing breast tumors in high risk patients. This paper will summarize the research of the new breast cancer vaccine, present different opinions on the discussion of this topic, and provide my own views on different opinions and progresses of this new breakthrough. Mayo Clinic, one of the leading medical practices and medical research groups in the world, has a team of researchers that have been…
Japanese eels This article is about a special protein in a Japanese eel. This eel’s protein connects with a pigment called bilirubin to get its green glow. This protein can be used for treating liver problems and jaundice. The reason that I picked this article is because I remember discussing about proteins for quite a while. The use of this protein was discovered by Atsushi Miyawaki. He is a biomaging specialist from the RIKEN research institute in Japan. He has spent the last three years…
Research Grant Proposal Integrin and Syndecan are Essential for Heart Formation The two research articles, “Syndecan contributes to heart cell specification and lumen formation during Drosophila cardiogenesis” and “Integrins are required for cardioblast polarization in Drosophila”, describe the responsibility of the two transmembrane proteins Syndecan and Integrin. These proteins were examined in relations of their effect on heart formation in the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. The developing…
this year we are just going to write on big paper and that was a research paper. To make this even better it was an essay on anything about food! I've would have never thought that i would have to be writing a research paper on food, so the thinking began. I wanted to choose an item that i can too from me consuming it everyday. The first thing that came to mind was rice and juice.I choose none of those. I decided to search about protein powder and the long term affects. I choose this because its something…
connected a horse to a buggy which obviously lead to the invention of motor vehicles. So the natural progression of everything created severe disparities in the world that forced for a sudden greater food supply distribution and with not much long term research. In the early 1990’s several major biotech companies introduced Genetically Modified crops. (Several terms are seen throughout the media, GE, or Genetically Modified Organism (GMO), but mean the relatively the same thing so the purpose of this…
