Every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies has a connection to protein. Body proteins are broken down and replaced constantly. The foods that we eat that contains protein is digested into amino acids that’s used later to replace the proteins in our bodies. Food that protein is found is: Meats, poultry, fish, legumes, tofu, eggs, nuts and seeds, milk and milk products, grains, some vegetables, and some fruits. There are 20 different amino acids that join together to make all types of protein. Amino acids are like building blocks, amino acids cannot be made by our bodies, they are known as essential amino acids. The risks associated with protein deficiency are gallstones, arthritis, muscle deterioration, and heart problems. According to my age and gender the recommended amount of protein that I need is 46 grams each day.
