INTRODUCTION

The Diploma in Professional Studies (the Diploma) is a University of the Arts London Award for a period of industrial placement of at least 30 weeks duration. The placement is undertaken during the third year of the four-year bachelor’s degree, during which you normally will be working full-time in a company. The 30 weeks must be completed within the college academic year. You will be able to experience the pace, atmosphere and discipline of working in the industry through your involvement in the day-to-day activities of a particular business.

During the placement your academic studies continue through the compilation of a negotiated written assignment, which focuses on issues or opportunities related to the placement company. This not only continues development of your study skills, but also allows the ongoing demonstration of research, analytical and evaluative skills.

EXPECTED Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Diploma in Professional Studies you will be able to demonstrate: 1. knowledge of the business and professional practice as represented by the structures and procedures of the placement company; 2. an ability to evaluate your working environment, showing an awareness of contemporary issues, practices and culture; 3. an ability to manage and complete an agreed project, within the framework of opportunities and constraints provided by the placement; 4. evidence of engagement with the PPD principles outlined in this document and on Blackboard.

ASSESSMENT MARKING MATRIX

The unit is designed to enable you to demonstrate the learning outcomes by completing the assessment. Your work will be assessed through the UAL marking criteria, which have been developed to help tutors give you clear and helpful feedback on your work. Which marking criteria relate to which learning outcomes are shown in the table below:
