Outline
1. Introduction to the module
The rapid evolution of globalisation and the fast development on information technologies offer more than ever opportunities to business and management students to develop their businesses/management career across borders. This module is designed to target the need for business and management students who are ambitious to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and/or to work in an international business context. The module explores management from four key perspectives –
International development
International relations
Management of the International Business
Cross-culture management
The module will introduce you to the fundamental principles of international business management that are relevant to a modern day life, and the techniques that scholars and practitioners use to analysis business opportunities and performances in the context of an international environment.
The aim of this module is to develop student’s analytical skills of the essential principles of international business and management especially those relating to the initial stages of involvement in international business. It examines the decisions that have to be taken by global managers from an integrated functional perspective, against the dynamic global environment in which those decisions are made. As a result, this module is of particular value to you as a student of Business and Management.
The core disciplines that comprise the study of international business management are analysed and evaluated in their capacity to meet the challenge of change, the more sophisticated business environment and sustainability in the international context. The module uses case studies, frameworks, models and guest speakers to analyse existing thinking, to explore new approaches and technologies, and to encourage innovative and reflective practice.
This is a 30-unit core module of the degree programme delivered over ten consecutive weeks. Lectures/seminars take place in an one hour long lecture and two-hour long seminar each week affording thirty hours direct contact time, with the addition of a further three hours tutoring.
Students should allow up to 270 hours of independent self-managed learning to support the completion of all of the elements of the module. This amounts to approximately 27 hours per week of independent study in addition to taught content.
You will be expected, through your self-directed learning, to develop your own repository of academic and practitioner related sources and references to support
