Webster’s dictionary defines philosophy as the study of ideas about knowledge, truth, the nature and meaning of life, etc. Although philosophy has a relative simple definition it is anything but simple. Since beginning of time there has been philosophy and every person whether they know what philosophy is or not have their own personal philosophy. Our personal philosophy affects our decisions and actions every day and is an important part of who we are. We form part of our own personal philosophy by our experiences and own morals, but most of our philosophy comes from outside influences, such as our parents, church, and our society. My personal philosophy is made up of what I’ve been told and experienced in my life.
One of biggest debates in history is the existence of God. Philosopher’s over history have spent a lot of time wondering whether or not there is a God or not. Plato believed this about the existence of God. First, he claimed something must have created the world, the sun, the moon, the stars and the order therein, and that something must have been the gods. Secondly, he said we should believe the gods because most people believed in them and the majority was unlikely to be wrong. Rene Descartes believed that since he existed, since he is imperfect, since he has an idea of an perfect being an imperfect being he couldn’t be able to envision an perfect being without there being one in the world. Sigmound Freund saw God as an illusion because of the human need for a father figure. My belief and thoughts are a great example of how my personal philosophy comes from my own experiences and outside influences. I understand Freund’s view on religion, because the human race does have a need for approval and a father figure. Although I there are too many mysteries in the world for science to explain. Plato’s view on religion despite being dated because of the lack of information in his time period makes a compelling argument. There a lot things that science cannot explain. Although science has had many developments since Plato ad generally the majority is correct after all 84% of the world believes in some type of God. Descartes view on God I find the most intriguing out of all the views on god we’ve studied this year. Who invented the idea of God? Is it possible that only thing capable of creating the idea of God is God himself.
I believe that there is a God out there and I believe in Jesus Christ is his son and my savior. Why do I believe this though is a different question entirely. If I didn’t attend church as a child with my family I don’t know if I would believe in God since only recently have I questioned and pondered the existence of God. I thought about the way I feel after leaving church and how every time I prayed for my great grandma to come home from the hospital she has. I understand if people don’t believe in God because I’m not sure if I would if I didn’t go to church as child. But since I did go to church and what I learned at church made sense to me. Also the most convincing argument for me was watching the community and unity in the church and how only a higher power could create something so wonderful. After hours of thinking and debating with my self I have come to the conclusion that I believe that there is a God and that he is watching over all of us. Government is topic that philosophers since the Romans have many varied views on. John Locke expressed the radical view that government is morally obliged to serve people, namely by protecting life, liberty, and property. He explained the principle of checks and balances to limit government power. He favored representative government and a rule of law. He denounced tyranny. He insisted that when government violates individual rights, people may legitimately rebel. Thomas Hobbes view on government varied greatly to Locke. Governments were created, according to Hobbes, to protect people from their own selfishness and evil. The best

Walter Kaufmann once said, “philosophy means liberation from the - routine, soaring above the well known, seeing it in new perspectives, arousing wonder and the wish to fly.” I think this quote means that philosophy is the path that leads us to examine and change our lives for the better. Metaphysics is the…
ELIZABETH NORDSTROM MY PHILOSOPHY January 20, 2015 PROFESSOR KENNETH CRAIG I have always been very understanding of peoples beliefs. I understand that the world is made up of many opposing ideas and that no one person is fully correct. Personal Leadership Philosophy Well it’s definitely been a very interesting class, and I have learned much about leadership. As always I believe the best teacher is experience, so that will ultimately be the true test as to what I have learned. For the record, I will be referencing the bible for the majority of my paper because in the words of the late apostle Paul who was quoted as saying, “To live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippines 1:21). You know my background and some of what my…

These three concepts struck a chord with me as we were learning and discussing them throughout the course. I plan…
Unlike many mathematicians, I live in an irrational world. I feel that my life is defined by a sure amount of irrationalities that are too frequent. Making it through a day requires challenging problem cracking, and this constant exposure has made me much better at adapting to them than previously. You can relate this to one of my heavier extracurricular activities, Thespians. When working on a scene for a performance there are many conflicts, whether it be inconsistency with behavior, awkward pacing…
