Personal Leadership Philosophy Well it’s definitely been a very interesting class, and I have learned much about leadership. As always I believe the best teacher is experience, so that will ultimately be the true test as to what I have learned. For the record, I will be referencing the bible for the majority of my paper because in the words of the late apostle Paul who was quoted as saying, “To live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippines 1:21). You know my background and some of what my faith has brought me through in life, so I am eternally grateful, and I am indebted to God for saving my life! All though far from perfection, and at times I am a terrible example for Christ, but nevertheless I feel compelled at the very least to be unashamed of the Gospels, and to profess Christ wherever I go. It is a small price to pay for such a big debt paid! I believe Christ was the best example of a leader because He was perfect in all ways, so therefore, it only makes sense to mimic the lifestyle of the One who was the very best. I’d like to mention that it seems that many of the great leaders incorporated faith into their lives one way or the other. The way that we get a glimpse of the type of model life that Christ lead is through the Holy Scriptures. Now that I’ve gave an adequate explanation as to my thinking, I will answer the questions that you ask of me to the best of my ability. For an overseer, as God's steward, he must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it (Titus 1:7-14). This is the definition of an effective leader. As to my definition of a good leader in lay mans terms, I try to live according to the Bile, but I fall short daily. It’s tough to walk upright in a fallen world without the help of the Good Lord. I would say that my definition of a good leader has these qualities: honesty, integrity, perseverance, discipline, leads by example, and is a good communicator. My definition of a good role model is quite similar to my definition of an effective leader and my definition of a leader period. I believe in order to be one you must be the other. For example a leader must also be a role model and vise-versa. Because if you are leading, everyone looks to you for guidance, and if you’re not walking the straight line, it gives others the excuse to stray from the path. Humans love excuses, and were quite proficient in justification. It’s an inherited trait of our sinful nature. Essentially, when it comes right down to the nitty-gritty the quality one must possess in order to be a good leader is a servant’s heart. That’s the bottom line! That’s what Christ was, and that’s the attitude I think a leader, role model should have, “The greatest among you shall be your servant” (Matthew 23:11). Of course all of this would be impossible without love. Love is the glue that holds this mess of a world together. We know love because it says in the Bible “He first loved us this is how we know and are capable of love” (1 John 4:19). Here comes the fun part, critiquing myself. Just to let you know I’m a good salesman, but for the sake of integrity I’ll be as honest as possible, and I’ll try not to sell myself. Plus, just to let you know I’m my own worst enemy, and I am my own worst critic! With all that said let’s begin.
