INTRODUCTION

Welcome to INH301! Please read this addendum to the general subject outline carefully. It is your guide to the subject requirements and activities in my class. Be sure to read the outline containing key course information at http://www.senecac.on.ca/fulltime.

TEXTS & MATERIALS Reading will be assigned on a weekly basis. The material I assign will be available online through the Seneca Libraries journal collections, be posted on Blackboard or handed out in class.

Each week you will be assigned reading and asked to discuss the article(s) on the class discussion board. You can either start a new discussion thread or post comments on existing discussion threads. You must make at least two posts each week. The discussions must be posted by Monday at 1:00 p.m. During our class the next day, we will follow up on the discussions begun online.

Your postings to the discussion board make up 30% of your final grade. To do well, your posts need to be thoughtful and make clear that you have read the article(s) thoroughly. You may debate and disagree with one another but you must do so in a constructive and collegial manner.

PROMOTION POLICY

EVALUATION OF WORK

Evaluation is based on correct language usage, organization and mastery of the subject at a post secondary level. Students are expected to learn professional standards of performance in the subject areas, and tests and assignments will be graded on that basis. In recognition of the significance of exceptional communication skills in the work place, marks are deducted for language errors on all tests and exams. A student can be failed on the basis of language errors alone.

PROMOTION POLICY

To be successful in this subject, you must complete all course work as specified and achieve an overall grade of D (50%) or more.

MISSED TESTS / PRESENTATIONS / IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENTS

Students who miss scheduled tests, presentations or in-class assignments will receive a grade of zero. If there are valid reasons for missing the test, presentation or in-class assignment, the student MUST:
a) Contact the professor or student advisor either by phone or by email prior to the start time of the test, presentation or in-class assignment and
b) Next class, present the professor with a signed, word-processed memo indicating why the test presentation or in-class assignment was missed, with documentation where appropriate.
