Analysis of Quality – D L Swift (August 2014)
Introduction
Quality has been described in numerous ways; but is generally defined as an area of business management concerned with oversight and control of products and production processes in the manufacturing or processing of goods or services. It involves the control and assurance that business operations and the corresponding products are effective and compliant in terms of meeting regulatory, company and customer requirements.
It is further defined by The American Society of Quality (ASQ) as a combination of quantitative and qualitative perspectives as determined by an individual or business sector. It is the characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs and it is a product or service free of deficiencies. Their definition goes further by referencing key quality theorist; Juran noted it as “fitness for use (fitness is defined by the customer), and Deming likened it to efficient quality production that the market expects. Deming further linked quality with management by describing how costs go down and productivity goes up with quality improvements. These are accomplished with better designs, engineering, testing and processes (ASQ Glossary, 2014).
As described in the CalU GRC600 Unit 6 assignment; in this paper we will analyze a qualitative-study article. We will analyze the limitations, theoretical divergences, and main points of consensus between the chosen article and relative researched articles (“CalU GRC600 Study Guide”, 2014).
