Task 1
List the laws (Legislation) in place that covers employment, the main features of these and why each one is in place.

Equality Act – This act is there to eliminate discrimination. The discrimination between the amount offered financially to each gender, the discrimination of race, religion, sexual orientation and age.

Health and Safety Act – This act is there to ensure the health, the safety and welfare at work for all employees. Employers must give adequate information and training and suitable clothing to ensure the safety of all employees.

Minimum Wage – This is there so that everyone who work in the UK must at least be paid the minimum level of pay.

Holiday Entitlement – Most employees are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks paid holiday. Bank holidays can be included as part of the paid holiday entitlement.

Task 2
Find out and identify where to get advice about employment responsibilities and rights.
(Learning outcomes 1 = 1.4)

You could go to your local citizens advice where they would be able to help and advice you on your employments rights and responsibilities.
You could look online to find out what your employment rights and responsibilities are.
If you are unsure of your responsibilities you could simply look into your contract to see what it states.

Task 3
Look at your own contract of employment.
Describe the terms and conditions included.
What does your contract state about ways of working with your employer e.g. absences, annual leave, contracted hours, disciplinary procedure?

It states my contracted hours per week. However it does say my employer may require me to vary the pattern of my working hours on a temporary or permanent basis.

For the disciplinary procedure is states should the need for disciplinary action be deemed necessary then this will be taken in accordance with the company policy and procedure on disciplinary action. It also stated I have the right of appeal against this as outlined in the procedure.

If I am sick and unable to go to work I am required to report any sickness absence as soon as possible to my manager. If required I may be asked to provide certification of sickness.

For annual leave it states the company year from the 1st of April to the 31st March. It then states the number of entitled leave days in 28 inclusive of statutory / local holidays. It also states for my entitled holidays I will be paid as normal.

Pay before Deductions (gross pay)
The deductions made for income tax
The deductions for a pension
The amount of pay you actually receive (after deductions)

Employee Number – A number used as a personal payroll reference
Employee Name – Employee's personal name
Tax Code – Made up of several numbers and a letter used so your employer can calculate the amount of tax to deduct from your pay.
National Insurance Number - Personal number given to the individual once they turn 16.
Net Pay Year to date – The amount you have earned so far in this financial year.
Pay before Deductions (gross pay) – What you make before deductions.
The deductions made for income tax – when income tax is deducted from your pay slip it will tell you on the deductions section of your pay slip.
The deductions for a pension - when paying towards a workplace pension that the company has set up, the amount of pay going towards the pension will be shown on the pay slip.
The amount of pay you actually receive (after deductions) – Net Pay.
