PROMOTE CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON DEVELOPMENT

1.1 When assessing you need to take account of a range of factors:
1. Confidentiality must be kept at all times. You must have the senior practitioner’s and/or the parents’ permission before making formal observations of children. Do not to leave confidential material lying around they must be secured in a locked cabinet. Line of reporting-only talk to authorized personal about confidential material. This confidentially can only be broken when a child is at real risk.

1.2 Physical development: this refers to the body increasing in skill and performance and includes: gross motor development (using large muscles), for example legs and arms; fine motor development (precise use of muscles), for example hands and fingers.
We can assess this by seeing how much the child has grown and how much they weigh. Usually within the workplace you would monitor this weekly to see if there is any change in their development which would be a cause for concern.
Physical development can also be monitored by observing the way children walk, climb, skip use hand co-ordination. By observing them play with toys we can assess their physical development.
Communication and speech development: as a practitioner you need to understand how children learn to communicate and also the ways in which adults can promote children’s language development. To do so practitioners need to assess children’s language, speech and communication, looking at the stages and sequences of language development and compare them with the milestones.

Assessing the child speech is – for example, saying words with them to see if there are any stutters or letters they can’t pronounce or see how children communicate with other people –family members / peers.
