As an early childhood educator, I have to maintain a positive and productive relationship with the families that come into my program. Parents entrust me with their children all day and, I try to make the parents and families feel as much a part of our classroom and a part of their child’s development. To create this relationship, I work to build an open, friendly and cooperative line of communication with each of the children’s family. I make sure to let my families know about my open door policy where they can come into the classroom and stay for a short period of time. A great way to get families involved is to have a volunteer sign up weekly, for even just a quick book reading. I find this is a great way to get my parents involved in the school to help out. We send out newsletters and menus every month to talk about what we will be learning about that month and any events that will be happening in the school, as well as what their child is eating. Every 2 weeks we send out Anecdotal Notes to keep the parents updated on what their child has accomplished. I find that best way to keep an open communication with my parents is to check in with them and talk to them when they need someone to talk to about ideas, issue or just to vent about what their children are doing. I listen to what they have to tell me and do my best to answer their questions and concerns they many have about their children and their development.
