Portable Hardware
Portable hardware are communication devices that provide home and business users timely or convenient access to business and personal information on the go. Portable devices, also known as mobile devices, are little, handheld computing gadgets, commonly having a display screen with a small keyboard or a touch input. New types of mobile devices are always appearing in the market. Technological development has helped change mobile devices from a huge and heavy, desk-limited devices to easily transportable innovations that are a common part of everyday life. Today’s portable hardware manufacturers are making the latest mobile devices even cheaper, lighter, more transportable, and more powerful (Cashman 2011, Walters, 2012). Above all, the description, the motive behind the invention, and the usefulness should raise our awareness in the interaction between humans and portable hardware such as laptop computers, cellphones, and personal audio players.
First, a laptop computer operates or functions as a portable (i.e., movable) personal computer. It is possible to connect an external USB mouse, a second monitor, and a separate keyboard into today’s modern laptop. On top of this, most laptops today weigh from a couple of pounds to over nine pounds. Today’s laptop computers have screen resolutions that range from 1280 x 800 to 1920 x 1080 pixel resolutions. Today’s laptops are equipped with full HD displays and range from a 10-inch to a 20-inch screen size (Alahakoon, 2012, Arvidson, n.d., Ask, 2013, Description of a Laptop, n.d.).
Laptops were invented because they can collect many programs into one small computer. Moreover, laptops function just like personal computers; however, laptop computers exhaust little battery energy. The technology in the laptop computer allows one to be able to store data, convert that data, and complete daily tasks. In fact, people use laptops to balance checkbooks, listen to voice mail messages, and manage contacts and schedules while on the road or at home. Likewise, laptops allow us to be able to perform work, display presentations, buy and sell stocks, transfer funds, and pay bills electronically (Cashman, 2007, Smith, 2012, Why Were Laptops Invented, n.d., What are laptops for, n.d.).
Second, people use cell phones because cell phones provide a fast and uncomplicated way of contact or communication. Cell phones were invented in order to change how humans communicate with each other. A cell phone is any portable telephone that uses cellular system technology to receive and make calls. A cell phone is a mobile phone that can transmit a signal to a cellular network. This portable electronic device is used for short and long-range transportable contact or communication. The simplest feature phone, an Android handset, and even a smart phone are cell phones (Garberapr, 2013, Smith, 2012, Ware, 2013, Why are cellphones useful, n.d., Briefs: cell phones used for more than just talk, 2006).
Individuals that happen to be far away from a landline telephone or are traveling use cell phones. Speaking with a family member or friend, looking up the price of a product online, and looking up reviews of a product online are what cell phones are mainly used for nowadays. Cell phones are used as clocks, calendars, music players, and cameras, too. Moreover, cell, or mobile phones can allow many additional services such as email, packet switching for access to the Internet, Short Message Service for text messaging, and Multimedia Messaging Service for sending and receiving photos and video. The needs of consumers are constantly being met by an ever-growing list of data programs and features on mobile phones (Garberapr, 2013, Smith, 2012, Ware, 2013, United Press International, 2006, Why are cellphones useful, n.d., Briefs: cell phones used for more than just talk, 2006).
