Scholar-practitioner is a learning model designed to assist doctoral students in acquire research skills. Scholar-practitioner expresses an ideal of professional excellence grounded in theory and research, informed by experimental knowledge, and motivated by personal values, political commitments, and ethical conduct (McClintock, 2007). As a doctoral learner, I must understand scholar-practitioner and the concepts of scholar-practitioner such as scholar and practitioner. A learner must distinguish between scholar-practitioner and practitioner learning model and different the two learning model by degree level. It is important to conduct a self- evaluation of your knowledge and implementation of the learning model to create a plan to improve your skills. Scholar-practitioners are committed to the well-being of clients and colleagues to learning new ways of being effective, and to conceptualizing their work in relation to broader organizational, community political, and cultural contexts (McClintock, 2007). These skills are taught to learners beginning at graduate level. Scholar-practitioners is a compound word and to grasp understand of its true meaning; let us define scholar and practitioner. Scholar is a person who has studied a subject for a long time and knows a lot about it (www.merriam-webster.com). Practitioner is one who practices a profession (www.merriam-webster.com). There are similarities and differences between scholar-practitioner and practitioner-scholar. Scholar-practitioner is design for the doctoral level of education. Practitioner-scholar designed for the master’s level. Both scholar-practitioner and practitioner-scholar have the acquired information in their learning model phase. Acquire information is identify, obtain, and review the current status of knowledge about a subject through literature reviews, readings, research analyses, etc. (Capella). They both have four learning model phases. Scholar-practitioner and practitioner-scholar differ in three of these models. Practitioner-scholar consists of process information, evaluated new strategies and approached and applies and monitors new strategies/approaches to the discipline. Scholar-practitioner learning model is process information, extract questions and evaluate questions. Both model uses process information in their learning model, but the word implementation is differently. Practitioner-scholar dines process information as categorize, summarize or operationalize information for comprehension (Capella). Whereas, process information in the doctoral level is to evaluate the current status of knowledge to determine gaps or needs for new knowledge (Capella). Practitioner-scholar works in groups at the master’s level. Scholar-practitioner builds on prior knowledge through research and theory. Practitioner-scholar learning model at the master’s level completes group projects, assignments, and discussions. The research was divided, and my opinion was either accepted or reject in accordance to the person assigned to complete the discussion. There were times when the leader might reject your information. This learning model level did not require a lot of research. At this level, learners could use blogs and other resources. The importance of the scholar-practitioner in undoing some of these understandings is further developed (Thomas & Loxley, 2005). The scholar-practitioner requires more research than that of the practitioner-scholar level. As a doctoral learner, it is required that I become a scholar-practitioner. I will be a scholar first. Capella University will provide me the research skills needed to be a scholar. I will be required throughout my degree to research different database source to obtain information conveying to my field of study in psychology as well as my
