Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people

Identify the current legislation and codes of practice relevant to promoting equality and diversity in your school
The equality act 2010 – this act enables the rights that every person is given the same opportunities.

The human rights act 1998 – this act was brought in to help protect every ones basic rights .e.g. Any one with a physical or mental or social handicap will be intituled to the treatment that’s necessary.

Every child matters 2003 – this came in to affect to get all the agencies to work together. ( sheep is a 5 step outcome which gives the children what they need)

Every disabled child matters 2006 – this came about to help improve the rights of disabled children.

The children’s act 2006 – this act was amended to improve the every child matters out come for pre school children and child care for working parents and also parental information services.

The race relations act 1976 – this act helps support to prevent discrimination on the grounds of race.

Special needs and disability act 2001 (senda) – this act helps prevent the unfair treatment of individuals. In doing so it ensures people with disabilities or special needs are provided with the same opportunities as those who are not disabled or of special needs.

Convention of the rights of children act – this is a human rights treaty that lays out the social, health, political, civil, economic and cultural rights of children.

Explain why it is important to promote the rights of children and young people to participate and have equality of access.

Children and young people are contributors in every way of decisions that affect them within the school such as planning and delivery that meets their needs, this means the child will get the best start in life as they should never ever be underestimated.
Each and every child/young person have a right to all the available skills and opportunities that will enable them to make good life choices, to be able to support themselves and the needs of others and to be able to achieve much more than they ever thought possible.
There is a 5 step key out come that helps promote the rights of children they are:
S - Stay safe
H – Be healthy
E - Enjoy and achieve
E – Achieve economic wellbeing
P – Making a positive contribution

Explain why it is important to value and promote cultural diversity
Give examples of how you promote anti-discriminatory practice.

Within my school opportunities are provided for all children to express each others cultures and differences, this is to ensure that they understand, respect and value the social and cultural diversity with in their own community as well as around the world, culture can cut across nationalities, faith/belief and by recognizing and promoting cultural diversity and the differences of individuals and groups within school ance a child’s learning and promote knowledge and understanding of all pupils. Diversity with in the schools should be acknowledged and supported by putting on after school activities like drama club or sports club or even a after school trip to place of learning and interest that will help increase the children’s knowledge and experiences, which they may use in the class room or in later life. By supporting and encouraging children to understand and accept cultural diversity will also prevent stereotyping and decrease prejudice and discrimination within and outside of schools. Most importantly, it will prepare children and young people for numerous changes that will happen in their lives as adults where they will be involved in mixing with adults of different cultures and backgrounds.
