Research and Reflection Paper The most fundamentally important ideas in management are leadership, personality, motivation, decision-making and communication. In my experience, a good and effective manager or director is first and foremost a leader. A well-rounded manager or director has a personable personality and can engage and motivate a multitude of different personalities. In my experience, well-rounded managers and directors also have the ability to assess situations and people and make well-supported and smart decisions. Being a leader with a great personality who can motivate and make decisions goes hand In my experience, the behavior of a strong leader/manager represents a person who is welcoming in their expressions and movement, and who consciously continues to maintain a positive attitude. The personality of a leader/manager should be adaptable and ever changing. Throughout the day-to-day operations, a leader/manager will encounter many different events, some being positive and some with a negative tone. A strong leader/manager should have a personality that reflects excitement, ambition, sincerity, genuine care, and confidence in everything they do. However, I also feel that no two leaders/managers should have the exact same personality either. A well-rounded leadership/management team should compliment each other’s personalities and in turn motivate each other to bring out the best in themselves and the organization. Motivation and the ability to motivate others are crucial skills every leader/manager must possess. Motivation is “the process by which a person’s efforts are energized, directed, and sustained toward attaining a goal.” (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2001. P275) A leader/manager should be motivated daily by the mission and goals of an organization, and also by the want and willingness to achieve greatness. Achieving greatness should be both an individual goal and also a goal of the team being lead. The leader/manager of an organization should set the example and lead by it while also encouraging others to do the same. This
