1a. Sumarise entlitement and provision for Early Years education.
This came to practise in 2006 and it states that every 3 and 4 year old child has the right to a free part time education(up to 15 hours a week for 38 weeks a year). This came to action as it was recognized the importance of learning through play for young children and to prepare for school when they are 5.
In Wales the early years stretch from 3 to 7 years old while in Scotland children moved on to Primary 1(which is the equivalent of Reception in England) only when they are prepared to do so. Knowledge is an important criteria in this decision.
1b. Caracteristic of the different types of schools in UK
Community Schools: These schools are controlled and run by the Local Council and are not influenced by business or religious establishments . The decide on their own admissions criteria and can facilitate their premises for local groups such as Adult Education.
Foundation and Trust schools: They have their own governing body therefore they have more freedom than Community schools to change the way they perform. They set up their own admission policies.
Voluntary schools: The land of this schools is owned by a charity or religious organisation as these are usually faith schools. They are run by their own governing body . They get funded by the governing body, the charity and also the Local Education Authority.
Specialists schools: These are usually secondary schools and the areas they covered are:
Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, emotional and mental health
Sensory and physical needs
They received government founding.
Independent schools: Founded by fees from parents and from charity and investment donations .They decide on their own curriculum and admissions policy.
Academies: They are funded by businesses and they can decide on their own curriculum .
1c. post 16 options for young people and adults
The government decided on giving 16 years old and young people different options after leaving the mandatory school education, these are:
Full or part time education in schools, college or 6th forms.
Opportunity of getting an apprenticeship
Entry of employment, E2E
Employment that will provide a training to NVQ level
This is because in 2013 the education leaving age rose to 17 and in 2015 will rise to 18. This decision was based in the fact that the government carried out a research in which shows that young people who carry on learning or training until the age of 18 earn more money and are likely to be healthier and less likely to be in trouble with the police.
2a. understand how schools are organised in terms of roles and resposabililties ,
Strategic purpose of:
School governors: School governors are in charge of running the school and their main responsabilities are: to set aims and objectives and to create policies and to set targets for achieving this. It also monitors the performance of the Head Teacher and responds to school improvement service and Ofsted reports as necessary.
The school governors include the Head Teacher, at least one member of the staff, at least one parent and in general members of the local community.
Senior Management Team: They work closely with the Head Teacher and decide on issues concerning the running of the school. These team include the Deputy Head Teacher and staff with more experience and usually in management positions.
Teachers: Their role is to give the lessons in the classroom and in order to do that they need to plan and prepare the the curriculum for their pupils . Some of them are part of the Senior Management Team if they are a more experience ones and some are responsible of a subject area.
Support staff: Teachers Assistants have become part of schools as the government decided on the need for a teacher to have a support in the classroom and improve pupils progress. Other staff included are:
Breakfast, after school or extended school staff
