Recent studies have shown that there has been a consistent female dominance regarding teachers in primary and secondary schools. Data from the Teaching Agency has shown that more men are becoming primary school teachers; there has been an increase in the number of trainee male teachers, especially in primary, by over 50% in 4 years, this is five times the rate for women.
From a schools’ perspective, there is a high attraction to qualified males for primary school teachers due to the present lack of male teachers. Although the number of male teachers is rising, there is still a lead for women. This demand can be for multiple reasons; the main reason, in my opinion, is for the young male pupils to be able to form a bond with a male teacher, something that cannot be formed between as female teacher and male pupil so clearly. These male teachers may become a role model for the children, a figure in their life away from primary socialisation; many would argue it is important for young boys to see an male adult in a work environment and aim to provide children, who may lack a male role model in their home, with male figures who can teach both strength and sensitivity. It is occasionally thought that female teachers may ‘mother’ and nurture the young boys too much and are potentially hindering them for later education. It is no secret that young males like to play rough and fight, it is just in their nature, however too much female attention may stop this from happening and they will not be able to experience the rough and tumble play other children in different schools will. There is the stereotypical idea that males need to be the breadwinners and male

There are a dominant number of researches examining the relationship between African American males in urban communities and the predictors of high school dropouts in search of finding if there are predictors that contribute to African American males dropping out of high school. While the research done on this subject can contradict itself in many instances, with studies showing support for both sides of the argument I will show how circumstances in fact play a role on African American male’s decision…
species on the planet became extinct. While there are a dozen or more mass extinctions in the geological record, the Cretaceous mass extinction has always intrigued paleontologists because it marks the end of the age of the dinosaurs. For tens of millions of years, those great creatures had flourished. Then, suddenly, they disappeared. The body that impacted Earth at the end of the Cretaceous period was a meteorite with a mass of more than a trillion tons and a diameter of at least 10 kilometers…
boys and girls still fall under strict stereotypes. I want to explore the implications of these stereotypes, so I focused on the inferences made about boys and girls within physical education. Our bodies are more than vehicles for our brains. They are essentially the instruments in which we convey meaning. Society today values the superficial version of the body to such an extent that it has affected our language. Slurs such as, “You throw like a girl” and “Man up” are perverting humanity because…

Gurneet Josan Kwantlen Polytechnic University 100273605, Sociology 1125, Claudio Vidal, June 30, 2014 Numerous male professional athletes are being paid more than many occupations present today. Many believe it is due to the fact that it is based upon their immense talent that allows spectators to appreciate it. Sports media has recently become such a male-dominated industry that the audience for women’s…
knowledge and this week’s resource, I see a little clear why action research can help me address the needs of my students better. This week I have learned the difference between action research/teacher inquiry and education traditional research. Also, I have learned the relationship between action research and teacher professional growth and decision making. Last, I have been able to see what teacher inquiry/action research look like, how they are similar and different. I have discovered this…
The topic I would like to discuss more in depth would be on the benefit of separating sexes in the educational atmosphere. Three reasons why this would be helpful would be that it would keep the students focused on their work instead of trying to impress the opposite sex, boys and girls learn better from different teaching methods which could be applied better if they were separated, and it gets students to answer more questions confidently. Although it has many benefits, some…

president of the national council of Teachers of Mathematics in Reston, Virginia, “this shows there’s no real issue of intellectual ability-and that’s a message we still need to get this out to some parents and teachers” (544). He briefly states how “nearly 20 years ago there was a trivial gap in elementary schools between females’ and males” (544), but also suggested that “by the time they reach high school boys were better at solving more complex problems” (544). A more up to date studies show that on…
Gaining attention- I would show them an example of what training was to take place at that session such as how a matrix band should look like when it is set 2. Identifying the object- that this is what they will be able to do by the end of the session, set a matrix band up. 3. Recalling prior learning- I would ask if they have yet set up a matrix band. 4. Presenting stimulus- explain how they will put the matrix band together 5. Guided learning- demonstrate how…
