Charles Darwin/ evolution – 19th century scientist who created the theory of evolution/ survival of the fittest which would be mutated to fit the argument of the Robber Barons “Business Darwinism” only the determined and imaginative business will survive while weaker ones will be bought out or bankrupted.

Jane Adams/ Hull house – Jane Addams was a social activist that advocated women’s rights, protection for children, the poor, and the oppressed she was a major player in the populist movement and is revered as the mother of social work, Addams also founded the hull house, restoring a rundown mansion that once belonged to Charles Hull, after many renovations the place would soon uplift the whole community.

Greenback Party- a political party in the 19th century that pushed for paper money to improve the amount of monetary circulation in the country, opposed by the Robber Barons who wanted hard money, the Greenbacks were mainly backed by farmers and working class industrialists.

Interlocking directorate-a corporate directorate that includes one or more members who serve simultaneously in the directorates of other corporations. ~(Dictionary)

Government Land Grants for Railroads- were a series of acts of Congress that promoted the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the United States through authorizing the issuance of government bonds and the grants of land to railroad companies.

Haymarket Riot- The Haymarket affair (also known as the Haymarket massacre or Haymarket riot) was the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square[2] in Chicago. It began as a peaceful rally in support of workers striking for an eight-hour day and in reaction to the killing of several workers the previous day by the police. An unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they acted to disperse the public meeting. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians; scores of others were wounded.

Philosophy of Gospel of Wealth- described in the gospels of wealth, written by Andrew Carnegie speaks about the philanthropic obligations of the Nuvo-riche or Robber barons, self-made. That they should give back to the world which has given to them so much.
Democrat Party- During the guilded age adopted many beliefs and philosophies that pertained to the farmers, industrialists, and middle class.

Yellow dog contracts-A yellow-dog contract (a yellow-dog clause[1] of a contract, or an ironclad oath) is an agreement between an employer and an employee in which the employee agrees, as a condition of employment, not to be a member of a labor union

Socialism/Eugene V.Debs - was an American union leader, one of the founding members of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW or the Wobblies), and five times the candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States.[1] Through his presidential candidacies, as well as his work with labor movements, Debs eventually became one of the best-known socialists living in the United States.

Vertical Integration/Horizontal integration- In business, horizontal integration is a strategy where a company creates or acquires production units for outputs which are alike - either complementary or competitive. One example would be when a company acquires competitors in the same industry doing the same stage of production for the creation of a monopoly. Another example is the management of a group of products which are alike, yet at different price points, complexities, and qualities. This strategy may reduce competition and increase market share by using economies of scale/ In microeconomics and management, vertical integration is an arrangement in which the supply chain of a company is owned by that company. Usually each member of the supply chain produces a different product or (market-specific) service, and the products combine to
