COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course orients the student to the use of technology in the healthcare delivery system including: hardware, software, user interfaces, telecommunications, and networks. Outside work is required in this class in reading, completing assignments, and presentation for the lab portion of the course.

Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

Identify various types of hardware, software and interfere technologies associated with health care informatics Describe technology-based allied health applications in hospitals, community health agencies, education and research. Discuss ethical and legal considerations related to proprietary software, data security, information privacy and confidentiality. Prepare documents using Open Office programs.

TEACHING STATEGIES AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Students should be prepared to participate in lecture, board work, lab activities, demonstration, discussion, classroom exercises, practices, exams, or weekly quizzes, hand on learning, reading assignments for homework, field trips, guest lectures, group projects, simulation, and oral presentations.

Attendance for Nursing Education Programs 1.Students failing to meet the attendance requirement detailed below will be required to retake the course(s) for which attendance and participation requirements were not accomplished. A student A student will be placed on probation for at least one quarter if they do not successfully complete any of the required courses due to attendance, attainment of C (70 percent) average, failure to meet clinical objectives, failure to attain minimum ATI testing standards. They must apply for readmission if they fail a second nursing course, fail to meet the requirements of the probation, or it has been 12 months since they last attended courses. 2.Incomplete grades are not given who fail to meet the attendance requirements. Incomplete grades are given only in documentable, extreme circumstances and via the Appeals process. The student will be charged the full course fee for any course repeated due to failure/ withdrawn/dropped. A course may be repeated only once. Failure two times in a row in the same course will result in academic withdrawal from the program. Failure in any two nursing courses in the PN or in RN programs (for example, they do not have to be the same NRS course failed twice) will result in the academic withdrawal from the program If a student is administratively withdrawn for any reason, he or she may submit a written appeal to the Director of Student and Graduate Services (see appeal process). Students Refund policy (see Refund Policy). 3. Students who withdraw from the program prior to the published withdraw deadline dates will receive a refund according to the Refund Policy. Students are encouraged to talk with an adviser prior to the withdraw deadlines if they are having difficulty academically or personally to avoid total loss of tuition dollars.
