Stem Cell Therapy Research Paper Stem cells are the body’s raw materials that your body produces to replace old or dying cells anywhere around the body. There are two broad types of stem cells, Embryonic and Adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells comes from the embryos that are three to five days old. The origin of the Adult stem cells are the adult tissues. In the United States, it is not illegal to work with or create embryonic stem cell lines, but it is illegal for federal funds to be used to research stem cell lines that were created after August 2001. In 1978, Stem cells were discovered in human cord blood. In 1998, a University of Wisconsin student, isolated cells from the inner cell mass of early embryos and developed the first embryonic stem cell lines.

Stem cells show importance in numerous different areas. They help us by giving us a better understanding of cell development, which will lead us into knowing how to correct errors that create medical conditions. They also generate healthy cells to replace old or diseased cells; moreover, they have the potential to reverse diseases. Stem cells have the ability to improve memory, treat hair loss, re-attach teeth, reduce wrinkles, and many more effects. Stem cell therapy is an intervention method that introduces new adult stem cells into damaged tissue, so that it can the disease or injury. The most familiar type of Stem Cell Therapy is Bone Marrow Transplantation, which is used to treat cancers of the blood cells. To exterminate the white blood cells and bone marrow of the cancer patient, chemotherapy and radiation therapy is used. Then a sample of a bone marrow from a healthy donor is injected into the patient. Afterwards, the stem cells multiply in the patient’s bone marrow and begin producing healthy blood cells. There are some risks to this therapy. One risk is when the transplanted cells see the patient’s cell as alien and tries to attack them. That forms into a disease called Graft versus Host Disease (GvHD). Also there is a risk of developing an infection is greater than before the transplant.
