What job do I want in the short, medium and long term?
You could take on more managerial responsibilities in your current role by becoming a team leader, supervisor or manager. This way, you move up the organisational hierarchy. Alternatively, you could specialise in a particular area, such as sales, finance, personnel or IT. With a specialism you can seek training and experience in order to develop greater expertise.

An editor in Leeds wants to move to a better-paid job in London
A production line worker wants to progress to team leader, then supervisor
A finance assistant wants a more senior role but this requires training.
How do I get from where I am to where I want to be?
Once you have a clear idea of what you want to do and where you want to do it, you can start to work out how you can get from where you are to where you want to be. The bigger the gap between where you are and where you want to be, the more complex the career path you will have to take.
