“If there is hope, it lies in the Paroles.” Winston wrote. Who are the paroles, and why are they so influential to hope in Oceania? In George Orwell’s’ “1984” there are three social classes; Inner Party, Outer Party, and Paroles. The Inner Party is the upper- class, they basically are the elites. The Outer Party is the middleclass they are the informants and enforcers. The last and least significant social-class are the Paroles, they are general population, and are essentially the laborers .In actuality the Paroles can be vital to reform in Oceania and don’t even know it. Today’s America is very much similar to George Orwell’s’ “1984” novel. American citizens are still relatively ignorant to governmental manipulation. The United States government alters history and with-hold facts from its citizens, just as “Big Brother “did in the novel.
Today in America if you’re not part of the elite then you would most likely be a Parole, if we were in Orwell’s “1984”. In America the government knows that as long as the public is ignorant to key issues, than the facts can be manipulated. Time and time again our government has given the general population half the story or has just lied to use in order to get the reaction they need to reach their agenda. Government manipulation is not a new political tactic for controlling the masses. Essentially every part of our life is under some type of control. The government often uses safety as a reason to misguide the public. In the eyes of the upper class we are all children and can’t handle reality, similar to how big brother treated the paroles.
