Remembering 9/11 There are anniversaries for 9/11 but why are they called anniversaries? When I think of anniversaries I think of happy times, not a sad time where our country had a terrorist attack. It’s one thing to remember what happened every 9/11 and do something about it. It’s completely different to call it an anniversary and have street vendors selling trinkets about it as if it was a good thing. Our country was attacked for no reason and many people died because of it. The people who make a big deal out of the emergency responders who lost their lives trying to save others don’t think about the innocent civilians who died and had no choice but to die when the plane came crashing into their office floor. Emergency responders should know that they put their lives on the line when they sign up to be on a response team. The civilians on the jet who took over the plane from the hijackers knew what was going to happen to them when they took it over. They were able to take control and crash the jet into a field in Pennsylvania. The people on the jet knew that no matter what happened they were going to die. They would rather die knowing that they did something to try to help save other people from dying then know they could’ve done something but sat around and let terrorist take control of the plane and their lives.
After a certain period of time things start to lose their meaning. I understand that 9/11 was a gigantic catastrophe for the United States and it will never be forgotten but the people who lost loved ones or colleagues need time to heal. I know someone who was supposed to be on the 13 floor of the first tower on September 11, 2001. She was sick and had to send two of her closest friends and colleagues to fill in for her at the meeting. To this day she can’t forget what happened. She says that it’s her fault that they died and that she would do anything to bring them back. She said she wishes she could be where they are now. At the time she didn’t have a husband or any children and one of the people she sent in her position just had a baby girl. For the first ten years after 9/11 many people attended the ceremonies recognizing the victims that were killed in the terrorist attack. After the first ten years people stopped going to the big ceremonies held every year. Some
I know that we all have distinct memories of the exact moment when we realized what was happening on Tuesday, 9-11-2001, but driving to work today (I didn't take the bus/metro), I was struck by all the American flags hanging from each overpass bridge on I-66. It reminded me of all those flags that organically appeared and stayed up for months following that horrible day 12 years ago. I then remembered that horrible feeling sitting at the kitchen table in our old row house on Capitol Hill only 10…
(T) this is the storage of material/information in your brain and the retrieval of that information. Sensory memory is only capable of retaining information for a very short period of time. It allows your eye to have a larger field of vision by remembering images that your eye has already focused on. Really, your eyes' field of vision is quite small but because of sensory memory you are able to remember previous stimuli. The ability to look at an item and remember what it looked like with just a split…
