In this chapter Walter C. Keiser discusses a “Principlizing Model” in which the principle of “Principlizing” is found within the Scripture itself. He also states that to “Principlize” is to [re]state the author’s propositions, arguments, narrations, and illustrations on timeless abiding truths with special focus on the applications of those truths with special focus on the application of those truths to current needs of the Church.[pg.22] Kaiser then attempts to apply his “model” to such diverse topics as euthanasia, the roles of women in the church, and slavery.
The title of this book “moving beyond the bible to theology actually threw me off of wanting to read this book because I though of it as a very liberal idea. Even as I read the introduction and the first chapter I do not quite understand the meaning to this title but I hope to understand it more as I continue to read.
To the best of my knowledge I understand and to a certain extent agree with the “Principlizing Model” in which there is a need to bring these timeless truths to the church. More specifically in my ministry in the youth I find that there is a need “to bridge the then of the text of the narrative with the now needs of our day”.[pg.22] In my 7 years of youth ministry I found that there was a lack of understanding of the word of God amongst the youth because of the unrelatable stories and yet I feel there is a need to understand the truths behind the stories.
