Treaty of Paris 1763 -­ Signed of February 10th 1763, by the kingdoms of great britain, france and spain. After Britains victory over france and spain during the seven years war. This is important because it ended the seven years war.
Connecticut Compromise -­ This can also be known as the Great Compromise.
This was an agreement that large and small states reached during the
Constitutional Convention of 1787 that in part defined the legislative structure and representation that each state would have under the United States. This
Compromise directly affected the amount of representation from each state, and created the government systems we are familiar with today.
Reconquista -­ English Reconquest, in medieval Spain and Portugal, a series of campaigns by Christian states to recapture territory from the Muslims, who had occupied most of the Iberian Peninsula in the early 8th century. The reconquista was important because it put the Iberan back under Catholic control and represented the only really successful Holy War completed in the Renaissance.
Act of Settlement -­ The Act of Settlement is a piece of English legislation governing the succession to the English Crown. It was passed in 1701 to amend the English Bill of Rights, following the death of the last child of the then Princess
Anne. It declared that only Protestants could be monarchs in England. Since the monarch was also the religious authority, and Church of England was the national religion, only an Anglican could be the monarch.
Marbury v. Madison -­ A case decided by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice
John Marshall in 1803. The Court declared unanimously that a certain law passed by Congress should not be enforced, because the law was opposed to the Constitution.arguably the most important case in Supreme Court history, was the first U.S. Supreme Court case to apply the principle of "judicial review" -­-­ the power of federal courts to void acts of Congress in conflict with the Constitution.
