Executive Summary
All three printing presses are solid choices; the recommended printer press is the Merakuri Lux 10000. This is due to a couple of factors. Merakuri is the highest quality and highest capacity printing press out of the three. Although the costs are relatively higher, the capacity of the printing press to print 10,000 per hour is vital. This will allow our supply to meet the projected demand in three years.
Issue Identification
There are three printing presses that Platinum Box has identified as possible candidates that can provide the potential presses available to meet their needs, Merakuri, Jabaking, and Pnutype Press. All three potential sources have pros and cons. The goal of this report is to provide the most suitable printing press, which being cost conscious and scalable in the future. In the short term, and long-term, the issues are focused on being cost effective, while also being able to produce the products to meet the projected demand down the line.
Environmental & Root Cause
Of the three printing presses, Jabaking has the strongest ties with Platinum Box. Jim Hicza is close friends with Conrad Thompson, grandson and current president. Jabaking is well known in the industry has having good quality but not the best. Jabaking’s units have operating costs of $0.07 per sheet with the capacity to print $7000 per hour. Of the three Jabaking is also the only printing press with unionized workers.
Merakuri is the second company. Although the plants are located offshore, the cost of delivery would be $500,000 not that much more than Jabaking and not as expensive as Pnutype Press. Their expected life expectancy is 10 years. Concerns are being an international company located in
