Personality Analysis The personality of an individual is what makes him or her unique among others. That same uniqueness is what makes each person interesting to study and observe. The same set of identical twins may have all the same genetic makeup, but he or she will still have an individual personality to call his or her own. The study of personality is quite complex and involves many ideas and theories from wide variety of scholars. Personality is also something people can share and relate to with one another. According to Allport, “Personality is about what is unique to the individual, but it is also about what is shared across people” (Allport,
191). The existential approach focuses on a more fundamental aim that allows the individual insight, awareness, and a greater sense of understanding. According to Feist & Feist (2009), “Only the uniquely human needs of relatedness, transcendence, rootedness, sense of identity, and a frame of orientation can move people toward a reunion with the natural world” (p. 211). This theory does not focus on finding a cure for happiness or a way to feel better, but rather looks at the experience or memory.
Personality Characteristics The personality characteristic’s an individual carries with themselves is unique to the individual and may depend on his or her personality type. For instance, a person who sees borrowing money and not paying it back as a form of stealing may be quite different than the next who sees this as a favor and not stealing. This is all part of the characteristics that are embedded within a person. The psychodynamic theory may include characteristics such as, the self is composed of ego, the personal unconscious and the collective conscious, archetypes, the transcendence function, and the psyche leans towards wholeness (Feist & Feist, 2009).
