“Outsourced”

1) The company outsourced to position its call center in India. They did this because “all telephone jobs were being outsourced”. In India they could hire 8 people for the price of one in the U.S. It would roughly cost them $11,000 a year which was equivalent to ½ million in India.
2) There were numerous of both threats and opportunities with the company moving to India. One threat the company faced was hiring people in India to sell the company’s “American” products. A lot of Americans are angry with the fact jobs are being outsourced out of the U.S. Also the fact that our lingo and accents are different from that of people in India caused problems. Another threat in India was the quality of the building. Since the company was trying to save money as much as possible they got stuck in an awful constructed building. At one point in time the pipes had broken which could have ruined all of the computers inside of the building. The main opportunity with moving to India was saving the company a boat load of money.

The last cultural difference I came up with was when he experienced the “Day of Holy”. This was when everyone was I the streets throwing colored powder on others to celebrate the changing of seasons. Relating these to Hofstede’s model; when Todd ate with his left hand the people were very assertive in telling him not to do that again. This showed a high level in masculinity. The next difference was when he traveled to McDonalds for a burger. When he was there the person at the cashier didn’t really explain why the menu wasn’t the same as the menu in the U.S. This showed a higher level in pragmatism rather than normative. Pragmatism is when a society feels they don’t need to explain everything. The last difference, when Todd experienced “the Day of
