Many times for the last four years I have cried till I can cry no more. However, the last two years were the worst. I am going to tell my story so that I can pour out my heart, be a voice for other military wives, and begin the healing process.
It was love at first sight. He was the cook at Chili's and I was a server. I knew the minute I laid eyes on him that he would be my husband. He was and still is gorgeous. Who could resist a tall, lanky, and blue eyed man? We both played hard to get. But, eventually we were in separable! We partied hard and had good times. Unfortunately, we decided to call things off because he felt a need to go home and figure out what he wanted to do with his life. I thought it was officially over. But, after a few months he called. I made plans to visit him in Galveston, Texas. He gave me the news that he was going to basic training. That is when our love become that of movies!
During this time I decided to move to San Antonio, TX to be close to his area. While at basic training we wrote back and forth, letters
I have till this day! They are heartfelt like a romance novel you can't put down. We had decided to get married when he returned to San
Antonio. When he came back he proposed! It was a gold plain band, I didn't care I was going to be Mrs. Foster forever!! After awhile, he graduated from training as a combat medic. I was so proud of him. He was my solider of the United States Army. He was stationed at
Fort Hood, Tx. We built our lives there. Together we had the best time. We made each other laugh, he adored me and I adored him. I felt and knew I was the luckiest woman on earth.
We balanced each other. He was so patient with me and loving. I tend to overreact, get defensive, and have high energy. Yet, he would always put me in check and calm me down. He would say I was his queen and I would say he was mi rey (my king). Being in
Fort Hood, Texas you are part of the biggest military installations. He was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division 3-8 Regiment. He moved up in the ranks quickly, because he was assertive, possessed leadership, and confidence. I was proud to have a hero walk hand in hand with me! In 2004-2005 he left for his first deployment to the green zone in Iraq. While he was away I stayed at Fort Hood, Texas and kept myself busy working, exercising, and taking college classes. I worked out like a mad man so that my husband would come home to an attractive women! When he came back it was like he was never gone. Many marriages end when spouses are not around each other frequently. We always said what is wrong with people they are getting divorced and not remaining faithful. We promised to never betray each other and remain married forever.
On his first deployment, John did not see to much combat. Instead he was cooped up in a room with fellow soldiers. Yet, events would soon set the wheels of change in motion. Our family, although unbeknownst to us, would be forever changed.
I will never forget when the invasion started we were at an Italian restaurant in Killeen, Texas. It was John, our dear friend Bradley, and myself, having a nice dinner. Breaking news came on the T.V.- the U.S. had just invaded Iraq. Imagine our reaction and feelings?
Many soldiers were yelling hell yeah we are going to kick some butt. I thought to myself please not my husband.
The 4th ID was immediately deployed, our close friend Bradley was attached to this unit. When he left life went on as normal, then word came that John was to be deployed. John had only been home a year. This deployment was different he choose not tell me where is location would be, he didn't want me to worry. Our goodbye took place on August the year was 2006. I knew for some reason this was going to be different. John decided it was best for me to move home to be with family and work to save money. I agreed. You see I never went against what my husband said, I was submissive. I love that about him he made all the
