Mr.Paruso Did you know that about 200,000 people die a year because of drug abuse?(www.drugabuse.com)That is why the D.A.R.E program is such a good program because it helps chidren k-12,not only in America but in many other countries to make healthy life decisions and also is teaching them how to prevent drug abuse.Thats why I think the D.A.R.E program is a suitable program.
D.A.R.E stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and what its main goals are is to influence children to make good choices and to educate them about drug abuse and how to avert it from happeing to themselves. The program was founded by Daryl Gates in 1984.(wikipedia.org)Even though the program evolved almost thirty years ago,the purpose has remained the same. The core curriculum of DARE is composed of 17 lessons, one given each week. These lessons are taught by police officers in school classrooms. Lessons last about 45 minutes to 1 hour(http://www.crimesolutions.gov)You learn alot from the D.A.R.E program.
The program has reached many countries which makes it even more better.Even if some children dont get anything from it,there has to be atleast 1 child learning something. This program shows that it cares for kids lives.Teaching kids this program all around the world is making a big impact just on the minds of adolcents.Did you know that Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama declared one day out of the year to be National D.A.R.E day?(procon.org)
The D.A.R.E program is one of those programs that either helps or not but its not putting a negative effect on a kid just becuase the programs intention is to teach children right from wrong and how can you go wrong with a program like that. This isnt a risky program. The costs for receiving D.A.R.E. are minimal. Expenditures include officer training, classroom materials, teaching aids and the officer's time in the classroom. These costs are the responsibility of the participating law enforcement agency and/or school. Communities may be eligible for grant monies from the federal Drug Free Schools and Communities Program to assist with costs.(www.isp.state.il.us)You can sign up for it yourself on the website and it can be for you or if you wanna share D.A.R.E with a group of kids.
Students who enroll in D.A.R.E. have better attendance in the classroom. A 2010 peer-reviewed study on the D.A.R.E. program found that students were more likely to attend school on days they received D.A.R.E. lessons.(procon.org)Learning the program in school is something new the kids in the school dont get to participate in everyday. They get to interact with other kids and the police officers who are teaching the lessons of the program. They get to ask them questions and get to hear real life stories. The children will learn effects of drugs and how to prevent yourself from using them. This program is using the real life technique which makes it more interesting for the kids when the policemen come, they will listen more.
The American kids of today are exposed to drugs so easily. You can get drugs at school,at home, they are very easy to find.Drugs are becoming the normal thing
College Essay I would write about how my love and consistency of dancing saved me, but that wouldn't be entirely true. Dancing only helped me while I saved myself. My name is Lily Johnson, born and raised on Cape Cod, MA where I didn't feel the struggle until I was 14. I was thrown into high school already at a disadvantage. I was losing my group of friends that I have had since 4th grade. Instead of meeting new friends, I met something else that changed my life and I had no one to blame, not even…
anyone. I came from a very strict family that did not allow me to do much outside of school events. In high school my life consisted of work, basketball, and school. I was a very shy kid and was definitely not known as the party kid that hung out with all the popular kids on the weekend. Instead, I was studying, working, or helping my dad around the house. I had no idea how much my life would have changed for the better. Luckily, at summer orientation a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity invited…
Imagine moving every four years. Leaving to a new state, possibly a new country, a new town, and an all new group of people. That was my life for 16 years, you learn to adapt to change quickly. I wasn't blessed to grow up in the same place, with the same individuals. Despite that, I was blessed to get a life full of traveling and constant new experiences due to the military lifestyle. To start off with, I was born in the heart of Philadelphia, home of the soaring eagles. Living in Philadelphia…
Some may say my life is less than ordinary. I like to believe that my life is extraordinary. From the first time I gazed my eyes upon the pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone I knew that writing was something that I needed to pursue. The way J.K. Rowling enveloped me into this world of magic amazed me. I wanted to do this to people too, bring them into a world that was better than their own, a place where they could learn from their mistakes and make their lives better. For me, writing…
Before my childhood was cut short, it was a great one. I had a wonderful family and a younger brother who I was very close with. His name was Kinto. While our parents would be working in the daytime, Kinto and I, and other children in the village would all go into the woods to hunt for birds without the use of weapons and picked fruits for our families. There was nothing we loved more than running freely through the vast forests and playing together. By the time we were 12 years old, we knew how…
I remember as an 8 year old youth, being told stories by my grandfather on my mothers side about the many rituals he endured as a youth in having to hunt, fish, and work the land for his and his families survival. I may not remember the specific stories he shared with me, but I do remember hearing many of his stories which I felt at the time were boring, save for his gift to me of his original hand made bow he crafted and gave to me. I even remember when the American part of me read an article in…

I began athletics at a very young age. My first coach was my stepfather, called Bruce Barber. By the time I had a collection of regional and national titles in the 100 meters, 200 meters, high jump and long jump competitions. I moved to Kooralbyn International School in 1987 to be coached by Mike Danila. He became a key influence throughout my career, as he was very strict. The year after I won a scholarship to a girls school called Fairholme College, that was located in Toowoomba In 1990, Freema…
throughout my life I blocked out the bad things that happened. Things that i thought were so bad that i did not want to remember. Now i look back, and I say to myself what the hell was i so afraid of. Why did i feel the need to do so? I never stopped to think well maybe its really not that bad. I thought that my life was hell that i could do better. That i did not want to stay i just wanted to pack up and leave. Now i know that it was not bad, i had a roof over my head. When I was born my mother…
My name is Janae Davis. I’m 17 years old and attend Miami Northwestern senior high. But, that was not my first school; before I went to northwestern, I attended St. Thomas Aquinas in ft. Lauderdale. I had a great time there playing basketball, running track, and being in clubs like best buddies and marine biology. I was livid when my parents told me I had to leave because it was in the middle of my junior year and I already invested so much time and money in a place I knew I belonged, so I couldn’t…
