Algebra 1 MYP Project This year for the Algebra 1 MYP project was a line of best fit application using prices of gas from 2002 to 2008. The variables were the years on the X-axis and gas prices on the Y-axis. The data set has a positive correlation as the Y-axis value increased with the X-axis value. The graph and its coinciding values state that as the years go by the gas prices gradually increase. Lastly this graph and data set does somewhat follow a linear pattern as there are no obvious outliers. The equation for the line of best fit is Y=.4060714286X+.3782142857. The slope is .4060714286 and it states that since the slope is a positive value the gas prices will gradually increase. The Y-Intercept of the data set is .3782142857; this also states that since it is a positive number the gas prices will gradually increase as the years go by. If I were to use the equation to predict gas prices the price in 2005 would be $2.40, in 2010 it would be $4.44, and in 2011 would be $4.84. 2005 would be an interpolation as it is in the data set, but 2010 and 2011 are extrapolation as they are predictions outside of the dataset but are on the line of best fit. I predicted using the equation that the gas price in 2005 would be $2.40 but in reality it was $2.08, I was within 40 cents of the actual value which is not that bad. After some research I learned that gas prices in 2011 was $3.60 but my prediction was more than a whole dollar off I predicted it was
