White collar crime –predominantly males carried this out.
As we have moved to a service sector economy this has become more common.
Occupational crime- committed by employee against organisation, false allowance claim, theft , overcharging, illegal use of computer time 9facebook, sports sites etc)
Corporate crime- committed on behalf of or by an organisation by an employee or other, offence against consumers (illegal sales , false advertisement , price fixing – consumers pay more than they need to) , crimes against employees (working conditions not up to standard ,health and safety , minimum wages not adhered to.) Environmental offences- fly tipping, disposing of waste wrongly.
Impact of white collar crimes: Economic –cost is disproportionately higher than street crimes (burglary, theft , robbery )media tend to focus on. Physical: regulations are not followed, this causes deaths, injuries and bad health Social harm : lack of trust in public organisations , institutions , politicians (Mps expenses ). low paid workers and can’t afford relocation due to pollution; buy the cheaper products that may be less regulated – buy Cheap cuts of Meat and Toys.
Crimes of the powerful- Lewis althuser (Marxist ). Brutal policing of demonstrations – top-heavy sentencing (to set example ) of people after the social unrest/ London ‘riots’ of 2011.
