Keeping Orange County Active and Healthy Project Description The reason Team Hopscotch has chosen this project is improve the lives of children in Orange
County, Florida. We as a team feel there is a way to prevent the childhood obesity rate from increasing in our community. Hopscotch feels like if we are able to help children enjoy being outside and active; we have a chance at not only improving the children’s lives but also the lives of many others in the neighborhoods that are selected.
The current state of our problem is growing at an uncontrollable rate. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat (Center for Disease Control). In the last 30 years childhood obesity rates have quadrupled (Center for Disease Control). The year 1980 in America the childhood obesity rate was 7% for children between ages 6 to 11 (Center for Disease Control). As of 2012 the obesity rate for children 6 to 11 is up to 18%, and is expected to grow each year (Center for
Disease Control). In 2012, more than one third of children in America were overweight or obese
(Center for Disease Control). It is our goal as Hopscotch to prevent this percentage from growing. We plan to keep childhood obesity out of Orange County, Florida.

The objective Hopscotch is going to achieve is giving neighborhoods that are highly populated with children a safe place to be outside and play. The stakeholders that will be affected by hopscotch will be of course the children’s lives that we help improve. The parents of the children are stakeholders as well, Hopscotch can build the parks, but it will be the parents’ job to ensure their children go outside and utilize the area that we have created.
Hopscotch expects our business to help prevent and decrease childhood obesity in Orange
County, Florida. As a team we have been able to find a lot of cost effective ways to help be able build playgrounds. We have a black tie even that is on May 1, 2015. During this event we will be having a silent auction. Every item that is being auctioned has been donated. The funds that are raised from this event will be used to build new playgrounds in areas with high children population. Hopscotch is very excited about the future of Orange County, Florida. We strongly feel and believe that we are going to able to make a difference for children and their families all over the county.
