Jumping Hurdles
Each day brings about its own set of challenges and obstacles and as an aspiring leader I have learned that I must find creative ways to overcome these challenges and obstacles. As I continue to pursue my educational goals and gain work experience I will always keep one quote in mind. “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” – Micheal Jordan.
I was recently promoted to a Team Lead position and with that came a whole new set up of responsibilities. Some of my colleagues who are now my subordinates present new challenges every day primarily because they are having a hard time accepting my promotion. Lack of cooperation and total respect and poor team management are a few of the things I have encountered in this short period.
The most appropriate question that fits is: “What would Jesus do?” As stated in the infamous Golden Rule, we are to treat others in the manner that we would like to be treated, even when we feel wronged. In his book, Be a People Person, John C. Wall provides information on how to be an effective leader in dealing with people. He goes on to state “Whatever your position in a relationship, if you are aware of a problem, it’s your responsibility to make a concerted effort to create a positive change.” Effective and great leaders take problems head on and do not allow them to build up.
