I follow my duty of care well. It influences my service user’s day to day life as they are receiving the appropriate level of care with someone who they can trust and rely on. This makes them feel more comfortable, happier, more inclined to get involved in activities, opportunities and the community. It helps me build a good professional relationship with them, which makes it easier for me to achieve things in my job making me happier.
2 A duty of care is a legal obligation towards a care assistant where they provide an appropriate level of support towards an individual. I assist vulnerable adults with learning disabilities and help them to live in a way that is person centred. I involve them in the community and provide opportunities for them. I make sure all their needs are met efficiently and protect them from harm and abuse. It is my duty of care to make sure that these vulnerable adults are cared for appropriately.
1 An individual has the right to refuse a service if they want to. It is my duty of care to make sure that they are administered with the appropriate medication. One day when I arrived on shift I asked one of our service users if they were ready to take their medication. They refused the medication. I explained that without their medication they may become poorly but they still refused. I changed the conversation and asked how the service user’s family was and chatted with them about various things until I thought they were in a more positive mood. I then offered the medication again and the individual agreed. If they had refused again I would have recorded this information down on the MARR sheet and then contacted that individuals doctors to find out the effects of this, to let them know and to gain any medical advice they could offer.
2 To manage risks I would identify the risk and carry out a risk assessment, I would discuss the risks with S/U, manager and other members of staff. We would then put in place a care plan identifying the risks and actions to take to reduce this risk. This then gets documented and put into care plans and
