1.1 Introduction of health and safety communications in Health and Safety Care:

Introduction -
Communications are important in all aspects of working life in the work place, to protect all service users and staff, including temporary and voluntary workers and of course visitors and the general public in your work place. Legislations set out by Law are compulsory and it is paramount that these policies and procedures are obeyed with. During this essay I will draw upon different Acts to do with Health and safety and Health and Social Care workplace.
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations: 1999 apply to all work activities and requires employers to manage health and safety. The regulations and the associated Approved Code of Practice make some of the general duties of the Health and Safety Work Act more specific: HSC, 2001. The law requires all employers to act responsibly and do everything they can to avoid injury to themselves and other persons.

Health and safety arrangements: Make it very clear on who does what and when to put these plans into practice: e.g it would be clear that a service user with mobility issues, living as a resident in a care home should be housed on ground floor in case of a fire breaking out at any time.

Other arrangement systems would include training, safe systems of work machine area guiding safe equipment, noise control, and radiation and fire safety. Your statement of intent would make this clear what you have on offer with regards to health and safety, and should be made simple and clear.

1.1 Review systems policies and procedures for communicating information on health and safety care workplace in accordance with Legislation requirements:
There are 3 methods of communication, first being verbal: the most common method of communications. Through word of mouth, simple information and instructions, this would be significant in health and safety training in social care homes introducing induction training, or if staff need training for a specific job say management training, or supervisory. Speaking to each other is simpler and faster and at times can be a prompt intervention. Example of this could be tone of voice or language, but could also lead to a misinterpretation or inappropriate action. A client in a care home suffering dementia could find this confusing and upsetting.

The second method of communication is written: A copy of employers liability certificate detailing first aid would be extremely relevant in regard to health and safety and first aid systems showing health and safety targets against them would reassure the employee and visitors and would encourage them to comply. Signs; is the third method, signs would normally show directions as well as words; e.g. a symbol of an arrow could be pointing towards a fire exit showing a simple instruction but could be life saving to a service user and reduce risks to accident or injury.
