Interview Project What is a retail manager? A retail manager is the person ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operations (or management) of a retail store. All employees working in the store report to the retail manager. A store manager reports to a district or general manager. Mr. Armendarez has been with the RadioShack Company for the last 10 years slowly working his way up the ladder to success. He came from Austin, accepting the role as a store manager for the Lakewood branch of RadioShack 4 years ago. A proud student of The University of Texas Austin, Mr. Armendarez received his degree in education, but found that his true calling was with the RadioShack Company. My interview with Mr. Armendarez will give some insight in his duties as a manager, how he feels about his job description and many other questions. In the beginning of the interview, we really began to get a true understanding of the role as a manager. Mr. Armendarez shared with us that a day in the life of a manager is pretty fast paced and that a lot of the daily operations that he tends to deal with employee training/coaching, customer service and creative brainstorming. Even though the previously mentioned don’t seem as bad, the job has its “not so fun” tasks as well. Being a manager you must also deal with customer issues and finding a solution, employment performance issues and proper business decisions. Not all very glamorous situations to be in, but they are things that must be taken care of. Next, Mr. Armendarez shared with us some information about getting employed with the company, the benefits one can receive and other information about the company. In order to become a successful RadioShack employee, learning how to build character while building rapport is a key tool you will use in the retail business. It will promote good customer service and you will build a good reputation. Starting out with the company, an employee would make around $16,000.00 a year. The company also provides benefits to its employees such as healthcare, paid vacations, a 401K, tuition reimbursement and compensation bonuses. All of these are great benefits for a person starting out with the company, or starting their first job. Mr. Armendarez also shares with us that in order to move up in the company great skills to obtain and expand on are customer service, people skills and sales experience. The better an employee does in their sales, the better chance they have at getting noticed by the district managers to become a store manager. Lastly, Mr.
