Theseus’ Perspective:
Theseus was talking with Hippolyta, his fiancée, about their wedding, which was not too far from then. Theseus claimed that he couldn’t wait until the day of their marriage had arrived. While in the middle of their conversation, Egeus, along with his daughter Hermia, Lysander and Demetrius had interrupted. Egeus had begun to complain about his daughter’s deep infatuation with Lysander, rather than his choice for his daughter, Demetrius. Egeus claimed that her choices were as follows; she marries Lysander, but will be killed, or marries Demetrius and lives “happily” ever after. Theseus supports Egeus’ opinion, because it corresponds with the Athenian Law, and exits the stage with his fiancée and Egeus, to talk in private. However, before they leave, Theseus tells Hermia and Lysander to prepare for what her father desires for her.

Hippolyta’s Perspective:
Hippolyta and her fiancée, Theseus, discuss their marriage, which is to come in four days. Since Theseus is very anxious about the marriage, but Hippolyta tries hard to calm him down. In the middle of their conversation, Egeus interrupts with his daughter, Hermia, Lysander and Demetrius. After the argument and complaining comes to an end, Hippolyta exits with Theseus and Egeus.

Egeus’ Perspective:
Egeus becomes very angry with his daughter, Hermia, and enters outraged with Demetrius and Lysander. He begins to complain about how his daughter will be killed if she were to marry Lysander, the one she loves. However, Egeus wants Demetrius to marry his daughter instead. He decides to consult the Duke of Athens, who soon agrees with his orders to have his daughter marry Demetrius instead. Then, everyone, but Hermia and Lysander, exit the stage to talk in private.

Hermia’s Perspective:
Hermia’s father, Egeus has very angry with her, since she was infatuated by Lysander, instead of Demetrius. Egeus decides to consult the Duke of Athens, Theseus, to discuss this with him. She feels ignored, at this point, and just wants her dad to understand the issue from her own perspective. However, despite her desires, Theseus agrees with her father, assuring hat she will marry Demetrius or be killed with Lysander. When she is alone with Lysander, Hermia discusses their love
