49 million men woman and children in the United States went hungry last year. That is nearly one in seven Americans. That is the highest its ever been since the U.S. has been keeping track of these records. This is a crazy amount of people that cant even afford to feed there faces let alone all the other necessities. There is a holiday that is celebrated every single November and goes by the name of Thanksgiving . This holiday is almost known by all, but one thing that is forgotten are these 49 million people who are just struggling to survive. Thanksgiving was founded off one idea. Giving food to the less fortunate. Not anymore.

I was driving through Lansing, Michigan’s capital and I was taking in all the sights and sounds it was interesting seeing all the sky scrapers and I could say it was even pretty in some parts. Now I was a minute from the capital, almost to my destination. Until, out of the corner of my eye was this homeless man with home made pants scavenging through this trash can with this look of starvation. One thought crossed through my mind, why. Why does this man have to go through this. Why doesn’t somebody do something. Why in all places was this homeless man 60 seconds from the capital and the reasoning is its because there are people that are going hungry all over the United States. Hunger is at a all time high in the U.S. and one holiday that is not helping out as much as it should is Thanksgiving. I have been alive for 19 years and have been living in the same area for every single one of those years. That area is know as Portland ,Michigan and has kept me sheltered from the real world and how bad and cruel it can be for some people. Now through going to collage, volunteering and exploring the outside world I discovered how bad it really is. Thanksgiving dates back centuries. All the way
