You do not live in Detroit, you survive here. When the night falls guards go up and when the light comes up guards fall. The two actions of both the lights and the people demonstrate an opposite effect. Each effect explains how the city of Detroit and its occupants handles life’s bitter sweet moments. Living in Detroit has taught me to seek the good in bad situations, realize that everyone has their own greatness, and sometimes the best motivation is self-motivation. In life we all must experience the good and the bad. The good is most preferred while the bad always seem to be near and less desirable, in the streets of Detroit. People who live here has to cope with an array of bad situations, and to make a better life for themselves, we realize that we must find the good in those situations. To seek or find the good in a bad situation is to realize the lesson it teaches. Everything we go through in life is for a reason; it strengthens our mental health and allows us to be who we are. It helps us to think wiser, become stronger citizens, as well as prevent certain things that may bring chaos or negative actions to our lives. Living in Detroit is a struggle, however being forced to survive here is to be able to take a lemon and add sweetness to it by making lemonade. In other words take the bitter with the sweet and learn from it. Everyone has their own greatness. Meaning we all are special in our own way. I learned this from the Math Corps Program originated here in Detroit. This program has shown me my greatness and taught me how to find greatness in others.
