If you are familiar with using your Andrew web space you can use tools you are comfortable with instead of the suggested tools in this tutorial.
1. Set up your Andrew web space for the course
a. This setup uses ssh and ftp clients as examples. You can follow explicitly or use other means to perform these tasks if you know what you’re doing.
b. Use an ssh client to create your personal web space in Andrew
Mac: Open terminal (Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal) Enter : ssh –l your_andrew_username unix.andrew.cmu.edu
Windows:
Download Putty http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe Run Putty Enter unix.andrew.cmu.edu for Host Name Click Open Enter your username and password at the prompts
In the SSH client (terminal or putty)
Enter: mkdir –p www/course95730
Enter: fs sa www system:anyuser rl
Enter: fs sa www/course95730 system:anyuser rl
2. Create a hello page
In a text editor paste this html and save as index.html
3. Copy the index.html into your web space
Use Filezilla for sftp file transfers
Download and install from http://filezilla-project.org/download.php/
Run filezilla
Under file select site manager
Click New Site
Host: unix.andrew.cmu.edu
Protocol: SFTP
Login Type: Normal
User: Your Andrew username
Password: Your Andrew password
Click connect
In right panel expand folder named as you username
Expand www folder
Click course95730 folder
Now you can drag and drop your index.html file into the lower right panel.
4. After any changes to your web space you will need to publish to the web
Go to http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/server/publish.html
Select Personal Web Pages
Enter your Andrew username and click publish.
5. View your web page
Go to http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/your andrew id/course95730
If everything went right you should see your hello world page.
6. Set up a Google Analytics Account
Go To http://www.google.com/analytics/
If you already have a google account (gmail) you can sign in with that and then sign up for Analytics, or you can create a new google account
