A comparison of open sourced software and closed proprietary software products

Introduction

As Part Of My Literature review for 2015 I have chosen the topic “A comparison of Open Source Software and closed proprietary software product” I will be looking at what exactly is open source software and how it works and I will also be looking at some programs that are opened sourced software while I was trying to choose my topic for this year’s review I did not find it hard to choose especially as the course I am doing is Software Systems Development we work every day of our course with code and as I do like my course and I do like the concept of coding everyday It didn’t take me long to choose this topic also I found while searching online about open sourced software I found a lot of sources and so many programs that are available to download for free that you can modify the code to fit your needs also when I looked at the closed propriety software I wasn’t shocked to see that it is usually big selling companies that do not allow open source software to users these companies include Apple, Microsoft, Facebook etc. While doing this review I plan not to say which is better between open source software and closed propriety software as it is not for me to say which am better I only intend to compare the open source software and closed propriety software. I am not limiting the sources to exact programs I plan to look at a variety of programs and take into account the differences these developers have and why they allow it to be open or closed. We will be analyzing the arguments with both software and comparing them together. We will also be looking at if open sourced software is safe to run on our machines we will also look at the positives and negatives of both and comparing them to high detail we will then finish up with a conclusion of the comparison of open sourced software compared to closed propriety software.
