Consider for a moment that your classroom is a mix of children with Multiple Intelligences. With that in mind prepare a detailed thematic unit on “World Environment Day”. Explain with examples of activities how you will incorporate teaching to Multiple Intelligences in the areas of science, math, and language arts.
Class: Science
Level: 1st-5th grade
Topic: World Environment Day
Standard: Learn about the recycling process, endangered species, and how they can help the environment.
Objectives: to make them more conscious about the environment and how if we change certain habit we can help conserve our world in better shape.
Procedure:
1. Introduction of the theme give a brief explanation of it an why we are doing the activities. 2. Teach them the words of the day (June, environment, earth, species, endangered, climate, recycle, planet, biodiversity) 3. Hand out a word search which will allow them to review the words this activity will help their linguistic intelligence. 4. Hand out a math crossword this will help them with the logical or mathematic intelligence. 5. Make groups and have them make a pine cone bird feeder this will help them with the science and interpersonal intelligence. 6. Make a globe with balloon, newspapers, and glue. Let it dry and paint. This will allow for the kids to use their visual intelligence 7. Color different endangered species. This activity will be good for those in the intrapersonal intelligence.
Material: Word Search handout, math crossword handout, endangered species handout, pine cone, balloon, newspaper, glue, paint (blue, green, brown, red, and black.)
Time: A whole class day
