Do Christian values have a place in business? Does oil mix with water? No it does not. This would be a typical response for most business owners in the twenty –first century. In the United States and abroad businesses have experienced mass corruption, and headlines depict the deterioration of business ethics among our growing global community. Many business owners aspire to ethical principles regarding the operations of their business but many would most likely agree that upholding Christian values would be detrimental to their business. There are other business ethics that are similar to Christian values that many companies try to uphold. Then there are those Christian values that most business would not consider because it would infringe upon their ability to make a profit in their eyes. One of the Christian principles that are bypassed by many businesses is not only a principle but a Commandment. Exodus 20: 8 – 10 states, “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. But on the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant not thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.” Although, many people believe in GOD not all are going to abide by his laws. Many businesses feel that it would be detrimental to their business to keep the Sabbath Day, which is actually from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday. According to Richard C. Chewning, John w. Eby, and Shirley J. Roels’ book Business Through the Eyes of Faith, “The Lord’s Day is special to Christians, while many others see it only as another to pursue commercial profits.” (Chewning, Pg.7) Another principle is the act of tithing ten percent of the business profits to the church. Many businesses make contributions to organizations and persons, but will not consistently pay a tithe to a church. However, many
